The Youth Advocacy Institute (YAI) brings young people together from across the state to develop and practice skills to develop a strong Youth Voice in their school and community. YAI takes place during our Leadership Fly-In that brings school board members to Juneau to meet with the legislature. Students learn about the Alaska State Legislative process and issues impacting their education, while learning how to have a voice in the process. Participants also have the opportunity to connect with peers from across the state and participate in conversations with their district’s board members.
Who Should Attend?
High school students who want to:
• Enhance their knowledge and skills to have a strong Youth Voice in their school and community,
• Advocate for their school and district (with local school board members), and
• Learn about other cultures and communities.
