AASB’s School Improvement service was initiated in January 2000. This initiative was conceived to promote a supportive partnership between selected school districts and AASB to ensure that all Alaska students achieve at the highest levels possible. Recognizing the interdependence of student achievement and family and community support, AASB in 2003 began applying intensive community engagement in School Improvement districts in concert with school improvement efforts.

AASB partners with School Improvement districts focusing on four key areas: leadership, programs and staff, community-parent-student engagement, and resources. In concert with AASB’s school improvement support, Alaska ICE provides support, technical assistance, and resources to assist districts foster broad community engagement in improving the school and community climate for kids.
