Communities and Schools Working Together for Student Success
Quality Schools/Quality Students (QS2) is a comprehensive school improvement service initiated by AASB in January 2000. This initiative was conceived to promote a supportive partnership between selected school districts and AASB to ensure that all Alaska students achieve at the highest levels possible. Recognizing the interdependence of student achievement and family and community support, AASB in 2003 began applying intensive community engagement in QS2 districts in concert with school improvement efforts.
AASB partners with QS2 districts focusing on four key areas: leadership, programs and staff, community-parent-student engagement, and resources. In concert with AASB’s school improvement support, Alaska ICE provides intensive support and resources to foster broad community engagement in improving the school and community climate for kids.

Alaska ICE works closely with current and former QS2 partner districts on developing and sustaining community, family, and student engagement. Building relationships among adults and youth and building connections between communities, families and schools are at the heart of Alaska ICE’s work in the QS2 effort.
